Ledisi Heads To Broadway In New Musical WANTED Inspired By Clarke Sisters

Grammy-winning singer, actress and producer Ledisi is headed back to Broadway this fall in WANTED, a new musical inspired by the extraordinary true story of twin sisters Mary and Martha Clarke. Set in 1893 Texas, the production blends history, identity, family and rebellion into what creators describe as a “mostly true” Wild West legend.

Previews for WANTED will begin October 15, 2026 at the James Earl Jones Theatre, with opening night scheduled for November 8.

Ledisi will portray Tallulah Clarke, the sisters’ mother, alongside Solea Pfeiffer as Mary Clarke and Liisi LaFontaine as Martha Clarke. The casting announcement was revealed during “WANTED Unplugged,” a special one-night-only concert event held at Artist House in Soho, where audiences received an intimate preview of songs from the musical.

Inspired by real events, WANTED follows African American twin sisters Mary and Martha Clarke as they attempt to save their mother’s home and settle a devastating sharecropper debt. Passing as white while navigating the dangers of the American South and West, the sisters embark on a desperate journey that transforms them from farm girls into infamous outlaws.

The musical explores themes of race, survival, identity and inheritance while centering two women fighting for dignity and self-determination in a divided America.

Ledisi shared her excitement about joining the production, calling the role her first Broadway principal role and describing the opportunity as part of her continued evolution as a storyteller. Though best known for her acclaimed music career spanning R&B, soul, jazz, gospel and blues, Ledisi is no stranger to the stage. Her previous Broadway credits include Caroline, or Change and Hair, while her screen work includes Selma and Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story.

The production features a book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri, a descendant of the Clarke sisters, with music by composer Ross Baum. Direction comes from Tony Award nominee Stevie Walker-Webb, with choreography by Chelsey Arce.

WANTED has already generated significant buzz after earning a New York Times Critics Pick designation during its earlier development stages. The show has been praised for its originality, emotional storytelling and genre-blending score.

Chéri was recently named one of Variety’s “10 Broadway Stars to Watch for 2025,” while both Chéri and Baum were included in The Washington Post’s “POST NEXT” list spotlighting influential voices shaping culture in 2026.

Tickets for WANTED go on sale to the public on June 23 at 10 a.m. ET, with presales beginning June 16. The production is produced by P3 Productions.
