SPIN Magazine Debuts Dance Series with ZHU in Hollywood

Trailblazing media brand SPIN is stepping into the electronic music space with the launch of SPIN’s Dance Music Series, debuting with a special event featuring ZHU on Wednesday, May 6 at Sound Nightclub in Hollywood, California. The immersive club experience also celebrates the release of SPIN’s limited edition mini magazine, with ZHU gracing the cover.

ZHU, also known as Steven Zhu, remains one of the few artists in electronic music consistently pushing creative boundaries beyond traditional club and festival culture. Known for crafting conceptual and atmospheric experiences, both sonically and physically, he continues to evolve modern music through a distinct and fearless artistic vision. Building on the environments introduced through his BLACKLIZT events, ZHU invites fans attending the SPIN event to wear all black and step into BLACK MIDAS, his latest album. The project features a collection of compelling dancefloor tracks, including “5STARR,” “LEVELZZ,” and “BURN,” alongside a range of his signature deep house and melodic techno productions.

Each guest in attendance will receive the premiere edition of SPIN’s dance music focused mini magazine. Adding a forward thinking element, every copy includes an NFC chip that unlocks an exclusive mix from ZHU. This integration of near field communication technology offers a seamless and innovative way for fans to access custom content created specifically for the event, reinforcing ZHU’s ongoing commitment to merging music, technology, and experience.

Following renewed attention around his breakout hit “Faded,” which recently gained new momentum through a remix by HNTR, ZHU spent 2025 deepening his connection to the global dance music community through a series of dynamic DJ sets. Expanding his BLACKLIZT concept, these performances laid the groundwork for what would become BLACK MIDAS. Highlights included appearances alongside Mathame in Bogotá and deadmau5 at Coachella on the Quazar stage, as well as surprise pop up sets following the Bonnaroo weather shutdown in Nashville. Additional stops included Brooklyn Storehouse in New York City and Lightning in a Bottle, along with shared stages featuring Paul Kalkbrenner and Mahmut Orhan.

Closing out the year, ZHU brought his sound to a global audience with a headlining performance at Istanbul’s VW Arena in Turkey and a set at London’s renowned Drumsheds. In 2026, he returned to Ultra Music Festival for the first time since his 2017 debut, delivering a striking BLACK MIDAS presentation. The performance featured an in the round setup, with the artist surrounded by mannequins and a stage dramatically set on fire. He also appeared at SXSW and completed tour dates across Australia and Alaska.

With additional ON THE MOVE performances planned throughout the remainder of 2026, ZHU continues to expand his global reach while redefining the intersection of music, art, and live experience.
