American Airlines Goes Touchless at TSA With No Need For ID

American Airlines, working with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), has expanded TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID to all of its hub airports, giving eligible AAdvantage® members a faster, hands-free experience at security.

Travelers flying through hubs including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. can now verify their identity using facial recognition—no physical ID or boarding pass required. The program is also available at about 60 airports where American operates.

The system matches a traveler’s live image with photos already provided to the U.S. government (such as a passport or Global Entry), allowing for quicker access through TSA PreCheck lanes.

Participation is optional, and TSA manages all biometric data. Those who opt in can expect a faster, more seamless checkpoint experience.

To enroll, AAdvantage members simply add their Known Traveler Number and passport details to their profile on the American app or website, ensure the information matches, and select the Touchless ID option.

American says it plans to expand the program to more airports in the coming months.
