Will “This Summer Will Be Different” Adaptation Be Netflix’s Next Hit Series?

netflix

Stories that begin on the page have found a powerful second life on screen—particularly on Netflix, where literary adaptations have become some of the platform’s most reliable hits. From psychological thrillers and fantasy epics to period dramas and coming-of-age romances, books have provided a rich foundation for series that already arrive with built-in audiences and narrative depth.

In recent years, dozens of Netflix’s most-watched and culturally dominant shows have been adapted from novels, memoirs, comics, and graphic novels. Titles like Bridgerton, The Witcher, You, Shadow and Bone, Heartstopper, and The Queen’s Gambit have not only drawn massive global viewership but also reignited interest in the original books, often sending them back onto bestseller lists.

Netflix announced it has ordered a new 10 episode series, This Summer Will Be Different, based on the bestselling novel by Canadian author Carley Fortune.

The show will film on Prince Edward Island and in Toronto.

This Summer Will Be Different, based on the beloved novel by Carley Fortune, is a simmering, sun-soaked romance set across multiple summers on Prince Edward Island about Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.
