Apple TV+ has greenlit Beat the Reaper, a new dramedy led by BAFTA winner and Emmy nominee Will Poulter, who will also serve as an executive producer on the series. Sam Catlin, known for his work on Breaking Bad, Preacher, and Sugar, will act as showrunner and executive producer. The series is produced by Apple Studios in partnership with New Regency.
Adapted from Josh Bazell’s novel of the same name, Beat the Reaper centers on Dr. Peter Brown, played by Poulter, a gifted medical intern working at one of Boston’s most troubled hospitals. Beneath his aptitude for medicine lies a dangerous past he’s worked hard to bury. When a patient unexpectedly recognizes him, Brown is thrust into a race against time, with just eight hours to evade government agents, mob assassins, corrupt surgeons, and lingering threats from his former life—all while trying to stay alive.
The series is executive produced by Catlin under his overall deal with Apple TV+, alongside Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann for New Regency.
Apple TV+ continues to expand its slate of original programming across drama, comedy, film, documentaries, and family content. Since launching globally in November 2019, the platform has earned widespread recognition, with Apple Original titles accumulating hundreds of wins and thousands of award nominations, including Emmy-winning series and an Academy Award Best Picture winner.
