Peaky Blinders is coming back with a bang. Netflix and the BBC have confirmed two new series from writer and creator Steven Knight, each with six hour-long episodes, that will follow the next generation of Shelbys after the upcoming feature film, now in post-production.
Set in 1953, the story finds Birmingham rising from the devastation of World War II. As the city rebuilds in concrete and steel, the Shelby family once again stands at the heart of a brutal contest for power, ambition, and survival.
“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” said Knight. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
Mona Qureshi of Netflix added, “We couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders with our wonderful partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama and the BBC. There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham.”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, called it a homecoming: “This game-changing show made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago and it is one of the BBC’s most-loved dramas. Steven has worked his magic once again and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham.”
Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Peaky Blinders is one of the most iconic, era-defining dramas of our time. The story of the next generation of Shelbys will grip fans old and new.”
With Cillian Murphy returning as executive producer alongside Karen Wilson and Martin Haines of Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook of Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan for the BBC, and Netflix’s Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley overseeing, the Peaky Blinders saga is set to expand into a bold new era—cementing its place as one of the defining dramas of our time.
