YANUNI is a documentary that follows Juma Xipaia, an Indigenous leader from the Brazilian Amazon, as she transitions from life in a remote village to serving as Brazil’s first Secretary of Indigenous Rights.
The film chronicles her experiences facing multiple assassination attempts, her partnership with her husband—a federal IBAMA agent combating illegal gold mining—and her navigation of political, environmental, and personal challenges, including impending motherhood. Through her story, YANUNI explores themes of Indigenous governance, environmental protection, and the human impact of climate activism.
