Cine+Más SF proudly launches the 17th San Francisco Latino Film Festival (SFLFF) this week, celebrating Latin American and U.S. Latino stories with 24 in-person screenings—featuring 16 features and 8 short film programs—across some of San Francisco’s most beloved cultural venues.
The festival opens Thursday, October 23 at 6:00 PM at the Roxie Theater with ASCO: Without Permission, directed by Travis Gutiérrez Senger and executive produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
A genre-defying documentary, ASCO: Without Permission profiles the extraordinary Los Angeles-based Chicano art collective ASCO, whose provocative blend of activism and performance challenged representation in the art world, Hollywood, and the media throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
“This year’s festival captures the full scope of the Latino experience—from rebellion and resilience to art, love, and legacy,” said Lucho Ramirez, Festival Director. “We’re honored to open with ASCO: Without Permission, a film that embodies the creative courage and cultural impact we aim to celebrate.”
Screenings will take place after 6 PM on weekdays and after 1 PM on weekends at Artists’ Television Access, Apple Cinemas, 9th Street Independent Film Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and SPARK Social SF.
Festivalgoers can explore new voices in Latin cinema through powerful narratives, documentaries, and short film programs including Love & Belonging, Resilient Women, Laughter Is Medicine, and Queer Shorts: Connections.
