Broadway’s brightest stars lit up New York City this past Sunday, June 8, as the 78th Annual Tony Awards took center stage at Radio City Music Hall. The evening honored outstanding achievement in live Broadway theatre, with Maybe Happy Ending and Purpose taking top honors in musical and play categories, respectively.
Before the main event, the celebration began with THE TONY AWARDS: ACT ONE, a live pre-show hosted by first-time Tony nominee Darren Criss and Tony and Grammy winner Renée Elise Goldsberry. Airing for free on Pluto TV, the dynamic duo presented the first wave of winners, offering exclusive content leading up to the televised ceremony. Criss was nominated for his role as Oliver in Maybe Happy Ending, while Goldsberry, known for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, is also preparing to release her debut album, Who I Really Am, this June.
Hosted by Cynthia Erivo—a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winner, and three-time Oscar nominee—the main broadcast aired live on CBS and Paramount+, directed by Glenn Weiss and executive produced by Ricky Kirshner and Weiss under White Cherry Entertainment.
