Fans in Austin, Texas were treated to a heartfelt and humorous reunion this past weekend as King of the Hill co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels joined executive producer Saladin K. Patterson and voice cast members Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Toby Huss at the ATX TV Festival.
The panel celebrated the legacy of the original 13-season run and offered a sneak peek at the upcoming revival, premiering August 4 on Hulu.
In the same weekend, news broke that Jonathan Joss—who voiced fan-favorite character John Redcorn throughout the show’s original run— died. He was 58. Joss was of Lipan Apache and Comanche descent. His performance helped elevate Native representation in mainstream animation at a time when it was rare.

The revival picks up years after the original finale: Hank and Peggy return to a changed Arlen, Texas after working in Saudi Arabia, while Bobby, now 21, pursues his culinary dreams in Dallas.
The cast reflected on their favorite moments, their character arcs, and the grounded realism that made the show resonate with audiences across generations. Pamela Adlon described King of the Hill as a “television building block” in her creative career, while Mike Judge discussed the importance of creating a show that felt “real” and “observational.”
The panel also touched on honoring the show’s original cast members who have passed, including Johnny Hardwick and Brittany Murphy. New cast member Toby Huss, now voicing Dale Gribble, shared: “Johnny was one-of-a-kind… all I’m trying to do is hold on to his Dale-ness.” Judge confirmed that Hardwick appears in six episodes of the new season.
Hulu also released a first look at the new opening sequence and confirmed that the ten-episode season will launch Monday, August 4, 2025.
