HBO has revealed the lead cast for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, introducing a new generation to the Wizarding World with fresh faces in the franchise’s most iconic roles.
Screen newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively. The announcement marks the first major casting reveal for the series, which promises a faithful and immersive adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books.
The upcoming HBO Original will reintroduce Harry Potter to audiences as a multi-season series, with each season dedicated to faithfully adapting one of the seven books. The show will stream exclusively on HBO Max, including in upcoming launch territories such as Germany, Italy, and the UK. The original Harry Potter films will remain available to stream globally.
The creative team includes some heavy hitters from television and the original Harry Potter universe. The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials). Mark Mylod, known for his acclaimed work on Succession and Game of Thrones, will executive produce and direct multiple episodes.
Additional executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, alongside David Heyman of Heyday Films, who also produced the original Harry Potter film series. The show is a collaboration between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and Brontë Film and TV.
