Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced the latest Inside Safe operation that brought nearly 30 Angelenos indoors and moved more than 10 RVs from an encampment near several businesses in El Sereno on Tuesday, according to her office.
The question is, will they return or simply end up finding shelter elsewhere in the streets after time passes?
Since the beginning of this year, more than 350 Angelenos have been moved inside through Inside Safe, contributing to the resolution of over 90 encampments. But, what is the success rate of each Inside Safe location?
“Leaving people on the street affects everyone – small businesses, residents and the Angelenos who live in RVs and tents,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “Because of Inside Safe, thousands of unhoused Angelenos have received the assistance they needed, residents feel safer and these small businesses can thrive. Homelessness is down but the urgent work is far from over.”
“Ensuring folks have access to housing is key to building strong communities,” said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado. “Inside Safe is an important piece of that puzzle connecting Angelenos experiencing homelessness with housing and supportive services.”
According to reports, tent encampments have come down in every council district, and thousands more Angelenos came inside than in 2022.
Something tells us that these clean-ups will move in double time with the Olympics on the horizon for 2028.
