Actor Ray Stevenson Dies At Age 58

Actor Ray Stevenson has passed away at the age of 58, according to reports. The cause of death was not revealed, however the actor was filming in Italy.

Born in Northern Ireland in 1964, Stevenson was perhaps best known for portraying Volstagg in the “Thor” films.

According to Stevenson’s IMDB bio, he was an interior designer with an architectural firm in London when he decided to try out acting.

Eventually he attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating at the age of 29.

His career spanned over 30 years in film, TV and theater. He starred in the HBO historical drama “Rome,” portrayed the pirate Blackbeard in the Starz series “Black Sails” and the Asgardian warrior Volstagg in the “Thor” franchise.

Stevenson also worked on the stage where he played the part of Christ in the York Mystery Plays in 2000 at York Minster. In 2001, he took the part of Roger in the play Mouth to Mouth by Kevin Elyot, at the Albery Theatre in London with Lindsay Duncan and Michael Maloney.

His most well-known stage role was that of the Cardinal in The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster with Janet McTeer at the Royal National Theatre in 2003.
