The 8th annual Hollywood Beauty Awards (HBAs), founded by CEO Michele Elyzabeth, honored the architects of beauty on Thursday, March 9th, 2023 at the Taglyan in Los Angeles. The HBAs recognize talent in hair, makeup, photography and styling for film, TV, music, the red carpet and editorial, as well as special honorees. This year, audiences around the world were able to virtually join the full show in an HBA Metaverse world designed by NFT Oasis. Will O’Brien, NFT Oasis founder, introduced the world on stage with the avatar-version of the 2023 HBA Global Ambassador, Chaz Dean.
In real life, the renowned hairstylist, founder of WEN Hair & Body Care and animal activist welcomed the audience while carrying Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 15-week-old Schnauzer-blend puppy, PAWz Dean, who is up for adoption. 
Two-time Academy Award nominee, Carey Mulligan and 2022 HBA winner, Jenny Cho introduced “Till” star Danielle Deadwyler who presented Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling to Louisa V. Anthony.
EGOT winning-actress Viola Davis celebrated Sergio Lopez-Rivera with Outstanding Achievement in Makeup, while 2023 Oscar-nominee, Joel Harlow and 12x Academy Award winner, Rick Baker presented Outstanding Achievement in SFX Makeup to Mark Coulier.
After actor/director, Raviv Ullman presented Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling to Adruitha Lee, Charlize Theron took the stage to announce The Adruitha Lee Hairstyling Award nominees; surprising hairstylist and winner, Adir Abergel. “Star Trek Discovery” star, Sonequa Martin-Green presented Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design to Gersha Phillips. Netlix’s “Outer Banks” star, Chase Stokes accepted Groomer of the Year on behalf of winner, Marissa Machado.
Lionel Richie received a standing ovation before announcing the first tie since the 2016 HBAs, with Dave Thomas and Erin Walsh winning The Gersha Phillips Styling Award. Sofia Vergara presented The Beauty Enhancement Award to her cousin, Dr. Mariana Vergara.
“Billions” star, Malin Akerman presented Outstanding Achievement in Photography to Mark Seliger and Kevin Kreider & Devon Diep of Netflix’s “Bling Empire” announced Kevin Mazur as the winner of The Mark Seliger Photography Award.
Netflix’s “Selling Sunset” star, Mary Fitzgerald took the stage in Hayari couture to present The International Beauty Award to Nabil Hayari for Hayari Paris and former HBA winners Yolonda Frederick & Cesar Deleon Ramirez presented Fragrance of the Year to Ciara and Russell Wilson for R&C Fragrance.
“Criminal Minds: Evolution” stars A.J. Cook and Adam Rodriguez presented The Gentleman’s Award to their co-star, Joe Mantegna. For the grand finale of the evening, actress/singer, Rainey Qualley presented The Timeless Beauty Award to her mother, Andie MacDowell.
