One day after singer Aaron Carter was found dead, his brother Nick Carter posted about his younger brother on Instagram.
“My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed. Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz. Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth….I love you baby brother,” Carter wrote.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the police responded to a call for help at Carter’s Lancaster, California, home on Saturday morning around 11 a.m. local time, where a deceased person was found. The 34 year-old, who battled substance abuse was found in a bathtub. TMZ was the first to report the singer’s death.
Aaron Carter began performing at age seven and released his self-titled debut album in 1997 at age nine. Throughout his career he also appeared on Dancing With The Stars, on Broadway in Seussical and continued to release music over the years, including his fifth studio album in 2018.
Carter attended rehab in the past. In a 2019 episode of the show The Doctors, he said he suffered from multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression, and was taking a bevy of prescription medications including Xanax.
In 2012, Nick and Aaron lost their sister Leslie Carter to a drug overdose. She was 25 years old.
