Red Hot Chili Peppers will receive the prestigious Global Icon Award and perform live at the 2022 “VMAs,“ airing Sunday, August 28 at 8PM ET/PT from Prudential Center.
The 8x “VMAs” winners to make their highly-anticipated return to the iconic MTV stage for the first time in over two decades, last performing in 2000 when they received the coveted Video Vanguard Award.
This year, the band scored its 29th nomination – and first since 2006 – looking to take home a win in “Best Rock” for “Black Summer,” the lead single off their platinum-selling chart-topping twelfth studio album, Unlimited Love.
Red Hot Chili Peppers will add the title of ‘Global Icon’ during an already landmark year for the band that includes two new studio albums, including just-announced Return of the Dream Canteen, releasing October 14th on Warner Records, and a critically and commercially-acclaimed global stadium tour.
One of the most successful acts in rock history, singer Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist John Frusciante, have sold more than 60 million albums, including five multi-platinum LPs, won six Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
