We all have bucket lists, and many of the adventure to-do's on our list take place in the heat of the summer! Ziplining was always on my list and it turns out… you can zipline all year long here in Southern California. Let's start with a little history… what is Ziplining? Way back in the day, the old-fashion term was: “cableways.”

It has a different name depending on where you are in the world. For example, in Australia and New Zealand they’re known as “flying foxes”, in the UK as “aerial runways”; the South Africans call them “foofy slides” and in Italian-speaking Switzerland they’re “tirolesi”.

In the US and in the heart of Wrightwood, California, we call them Ziplines where you ride down one or more cables and experience the thrill of flight high above nature.

LATF visited Ziplines at Pacific Crest where we discovered one of the best activities that California has to offer. Pacific Crest is located just 75 miles from Los Angeles and Orange County.

Zipliner-In-Chief, Adam Bondeson recommended that our group of six try the CANOPY TOUR. Our incredible pro-zipline tour guides, Kita and Maddie rode with us up the San Andreas fault in the San Gabriel Mountains to teach us everything their is to know about ziplining.

Extremely skilled, Kita and Maddie make ziplining look easy. Each guide at Pacific Crest goes through rigorous training, in accordance with the Association for Challenge Course Technology. They are also experts in the local ecology of the San Gabriel Mountain Range! So, you're also on a nature facts tour.

The Canopy Tour includes:

  • Experience 9 exhilarating zip lines, up to 1500 ft. long
  • Soar 300 ft. above the forest floor
  • Zip across Buford Canyon at speeds up to 55 mph!

  • Through it all you'll be accompanied by two highly trained, knowledgeable guides who are passionate about the forest. All this is just 75 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Come discover what makes our Canopy Tour one of the most thrilling zipline courses in the nation.

How long does it take? About 3.5 hours… and I promise, you'll wish you had more time to hang in the mountains and zipline away.
