72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards: The Nominees Are…

The Television Academy today announced 121 nominations in 33 categories for the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards, to be presented Saturday evening, July 18, 2020, at 7 p.m. on Emmys.com.

The Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards honor locally produced programs in the categories of Crime and Social Issues, Culture and History, the Arts, Human Interest, Sports, the Environment, and Live and Breaking News Coverage. The nominees in these categories address a myriad of issues that continue to resonate throughout the southland, including racism, depression, child abuse, mass shootings, rape on college campuses and the impact of California’s unprecedented wildfires.

The candidates for the Designated News Day Station Award for regularly scheduled daily news over three different dayparts—evaluated for telecasts on Nov. 12, 2019—were selected by national active members within the Television Academy and will also be presented during the ceremony.

The Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards ceremony has been reimagined as a virtual event this year due to production restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The show will be produced by Bob Bain Productions and is currently in development.
