2017 New York Auto Show: A Look At Car Innovation

The major city auto shows are a chance for consumers to see the latest designs and innovation in auto design and manufacturing. The New York International Auto Show kicked off mid-week, April 14th and will last until April 23rd.

Every year, winners are announced at the NY Auto Show for their innovation in design, eco-friendly elements and beyond. Check out what major car companies are going home with gold titles:

Jaguar Land Rover Limited earned a double win this year. The Jaguar F-PACE won the 2017 World Car Design of the Year award as well as the overall 2017 World Car of the Year. The winner was announced during a press conference hosted by the New York International Auto Show, Bridgestone Corporation and Autoneum.

The BMW i3 (94 Ah) was declared the inaugural winner of the 2017 World Urban Car award. This award highlights BMW Group's commitment to sustainable mobility through BMW's first all-electric vehicle made primarily of carbon fiber.

The MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS was declared the 2017 World Luxury Car. This is the 3rd World Luxury Car win for Mercedes-Benz having captured today's title, plus two back-to-back titles in 2015 (Mercedes-Benz S-Coupe) and 2014 (Mercedes-Benz S-Class).

The PORSCHE BOXSTER CAYMAN has been declared the 2017 World Performance Car.

The TOYOTA PRIUS PRIME was declared the 2017 World Green Car. This is the second consecutive World Green Car win for Toyota Motor Corporation. The Toyota Mirai won last year's World Green Car title.

Genesis unveiled its progressive GV80 Concept SUV at the New York International Auto Show. The new fuel cell concept SUV continues to build on the global brand's expressive and refined 'Athletic Elegance' design direction.

The redesigned 2018 Sonata enters the market with a new look from the front, side and rear thanks to a "cascading grill," a more assertive profile and an entirely new rear.

Honda revealed its all-new Clarity Plug-in Hybrid and Clarity Electric alongside the already available Clarity Fuel Cell, saying it will target U.S. sales of 75,000 Clarity vehicles in the first four model years. The two all-new electrified Honda vehicles will join the Clarity Fuel Cell, launched in December 2016, to make Clarity the first ever vehicle series offering customers an expanded array of electrified vehicle choices with fuel cell, battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains wrapped in a sophisticated, spacious and comprehensively equipped five-passenger sedan.

Maserati North America has chosen the background of New York City to unveil a new special Ghibli model, the Nerissimo Edition, of which only 450 will be produced strictly for the United States and Canada. The name Nerissimo is based on the Italian expression for "extremely black." The Nerissimo will be unveiled for the first time at the Javits Center during the auto show.

Toyota FT-4X Concept – or, "Future Toyota"-Four-Wheel Drive Crossover has been unveiled. It's a four-wheel drive toolbox penned by Toyota's Calty Design Research Inc. in Newport Beach, California. With its long list of unique functionalities and a Rugged Charm compact design, the FT-4X is the seamless conduit of popular Casualcore – rather than hardcore – outings by anyone, anytime.

The all-new 2018 Rio sedan and 5-door are the latest additions to the Kia Motors America (KMA) model lineup. Penned at Kia's European and U.S. design studios in collaboration with Kia's design base in Namyang, Korea, this subcompact duo will bring an exciting combination of impressive fuel efficiency, innovative technology, advanced safety features[4], everyday convenience and fun-to-drive character to value-conscious consumers when they arrive at Kia retailers later this year.
