Kiehl’s continues its support of HIV/AIDS charities with its seventh annual Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR, an 11-day charity motorcycle ride.
On August 3rd, LifeRide commenced with contemporary artist José Parlá, in partnership with RxArt, with an unveiling of original work by Parlá at Incarnation Children’s Center (ICC). ICC is New York City’s only skilled nursing facility providing specialized care for youth living with HIV/AIDS.
Parlá, known for his vibrant, large-scale public installations, created new work for ICC’s most-used living spaces: the dining room, the main residence hallway, multipurpose room and brick wall of the outdoor roof deck.
“This world needs more people coming together and collaborating with a purpose to make the world better, healthier and safer,” said José Parlá. “Our collaboration between RxArt, Kiehl’s and myself is coming from the heart and it is filled with love. Our purpose is to spread that feeling and share in creating a new, good, bright and colorful space for the young folks and staff at Incarnation.”
@Kiehls Kicks off 7th annual #LifeRide with Unveiling of José Parlá’s art installation at ICC “RxArt works with outstanding artists to transform and energize children's hospitals and healthcare spaces,” said Diane Brown, Founder and President of RxArt.
“We are proud to be working with RxArt friend and collaborator José Parlá to dramatically update the ICC’s living spaces thanks to the generous support of Kiehl's.”
“We were thrilled to host the launch of this annual event, and be working with Kiehl’s and amfAR, who are deeply committed to raising funds to eradicate HIV/AIDS,” said Carolyn Castro, Executive Director at Incarnation Children’s Center.
“I and the residents of ICC couldn’t think of a better way for this commitment to be expressed than through the powerful and beautiful art of José Parlá.”
Harnessing the power of art to brighten the lives of young people living with HIV/AIDS, Kiehl’s LifeRide for amfAR is gearing up in a new way this year. “In honor of LifeRide 7, and in partnership with RxArt, we’re delighted to revive ICC with a monumental installation by José Parlá,” said Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl’s USA.
amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost noted, “I am so proud of what amfAR and Kiehl’s have accomplished over the years, and it’s an honor to have RxArt and José Parlá on board to take LifeRide 2016 to new heights.” Beginning in New York, and ending in Philadelphia, the charity motorcycle ride takes place August 3-13, 2016, celebrating with the public at 10 stops along the route.
The ride is led by Chris Salgardo with Kevin Robert Frost, and includes actors Gilles Marini, Scott Patterson, and Teddy Sears. Over the course of the ride, Kiehl’s will donate $150,000, and will have raised $1.6 million for amfAR since 2010, funding eight cure-related research projects.
