R&B/Soul Legend & “Stand By Me” Singer Ben E. King Passed Away At Age 76

 
 
The R&B and soul singing legend, Ben E. King has passed away at the age of 76. Once one of the lead singers of The Drifters, King was best known for his hit, “Stand By Me.”
 
His singing career began in 1958 when he joined a doo wop group called The Five Crowns. As a Drifter and as a solo artist, King achieved five No. 1 hits: “There Goes My Baby,” “Save The Last Dance For Me,” “Stand By Me,” “Supernatural Thing,” and the 1986 re-issue of “Stand By Me.” He also earned 12 Top 10 hits and 25 Top 40 hits from 1959 to 1986. 
 
King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Drifter, and was nominated as a solo artist. 
 
The R&B legend’s music lives on.
