Friday September 19th, 2014 was proclaimed Jane’s Addiction Day at The House of Blues on the Sunset Strip as the 2014 Sunset Strip Music Festival kicked off its 7th year. With 70 bands playing over the weekend, from Mayer Hawthorne to Empire Of The Sun, the festival is expected to draw thousands.

Jane’s Addiction Lead singer, Perry Farrell took the stage in his gray patterned suit and fedora. He was filled with gratitude as he looked out on the crowd which consisted of his fellow bandmates, fans and music industry colleagues who have supported the hit rock band over 25 years. Whiskey A Go Go owner, Mikael Maglieri presented the band and skate star, Tony Hawk spoke of how Jane’s Addiction was an influence on the skate culture in the 80’s and 90’s.

Before receiving the SSMF painting and award from the City of West Hollywood, Farrell insisted they sing a song. Dave Navarro (guitar), Stephen Perkins (drums) and Chris Chaney (bass) took the stage with Farrell to rock hard to their “Mountain Song.” The crowd chanted, “One more!” and Farrell didn’t even hesitate. He took his blazer off and swung it around, ready to sing another. They finished with “Ain’t No Right.” It is clear that the band is going 25 years strong and then some. Farrell and Navarro soaked in the audience, putting their hands out and kissing to the crowd. No doubt, they will do the same as they play to thousands on the streets of Sunset Boulevard Saturday night.
