California Chrome Wins The 140th Kentucky Derby

Churchill Down had 21 horses race for the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands. California Chrome won first place on Saturday, which made the California-bred colt the first to win the Derby since 1962. This was Chrome’s 77-year-old trainer, Art Sherman’s first time winning for the Roses. He is the oldest trainer to take home the Derby prize.

The horses entered in the Kentucky Derby were (in order of preference by points earned on the “Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by TwinSpires.com): California Chrome, Vicar’s in Trouble, Dance With Fate, Wicked Strong, Samraat, Danza, Hoppertunity, Intense Holiday, Wildcat Red, We Miss Artie, Ride On Curlin, Chitu, Tapiture, General a Rod, Medal Count, Candy Boy, Uncle Sigh, Vinceremos, Harry’s Holiday and Commanding Curve.
