According to Deadline, tragedy has struck the Jessup, Georgia set of “Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story.”
Yesterday afternoon, while the crew were on train tracks filming a scene, a CSX train traveling from Memphis to Savannah arrived unexpectedly and hit eight crew members, killing one.Variety is reporting that the fatally injured crew member, part of a 20-person crew based out of Meddin Studios in Savannah, was the second camera assistant, a 27 year-old woman.The production had permission to shoot in the location, making the tragedy all the more senseless.
Open Road Films spokesman Liz Biber has stated the company will not pull out of the film and still plans a U.S. release, though a release date has yet to be determined.
Based on Gregg Allman’s 2013 autobiography My Cross To Bear, the film is being directed by Randall Miller (“CBGB”) from a script he co-wrote with Jody Savin.The film stars William Hurt, Tyson Ritter, Charles S. Dutton, Wyatt Russell, Zoey Deutch and Chad Lindberg.Savin is producing and Allman and his manager Michael Lehman are executive producers.
