The US is now tied with the Netherlands for the second-highest total medal count with 12 Gold, Bronze and Silver combined. They are also in a four-way tie for the second-most gold medals with Canada, norway and the Netherlands. It was Team USA’s first-ever men’s Olympic freestyle ski slopestyle scores that kept them high in the medal rank.

Germany remains in the #1 Olympic spot with 7 golds, 2 bronze and 1 silver. Team USA won three more medals on Thursday, as skiers Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy, and Nicholas Goepper swept the men’s ski slopestyle final. Christensen won the gold with a score of 95.80, while Kenworthy took home silver and Goepper the bronze with scores of 93.60 and 92.40.

In hockey, the US defeated Slovakia 7-1 in its opening game of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, according to USAHockey.com. USA went on a six-goal streak in the second period, pulling away from a 1-1 tie and maintaining its lead to the end.
