Sasheer Zamata will be the first black female cast member to join the cast of “Saturday Night Live” since the departure of Maya Rudolph in 2007.
Variety via Deadline confirmed Zamata’s new NBC gig.
She will make her debut as a featured player on January 18th.
Zamata is a University of Virginia alum and trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
“SNL” has been scrutinized for the cast’s lack of diversity in the past. Hopefully this will change.
