New York Is Getting Electrified By EDC

DJ’ing is quickly becoming the biggest thing in music these days, and the technicolored electronic dance music festival known as Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is capitalizing on this trend, returning to New York City for its second year on May 17th and 18th. Insomniac, the group behind this frenetic festival promises its attendees an array of special effects, state-of-the-art lighting and sound as well as hundreds of theatrical performers, interactive art installations and pyrotechnics. The two-day experience will take place at New York’s Citi Field, home to the Mets, which maxes out at a 45,000-person capacity.

Though the EDC in Las Vegas is the company’s signature event, it seems as if they are trying to rival Goldenvoice’s Coachella, attempting to become the biggest name in music festivals.

“Based on the tremendous success of the first EDC New York in 2012, there was no question that Insomniac would return to the loyal fans in New York who truly enjoy the multi-sensory experience that we create,” said Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella.

Like Coachella (which charges $350 at its lowest and in the $3,000 range for its highest packages), tickets aren’t cheap. Two-day general admission passes are priced at $159 with VIP tickets selling at $299 even before service fees. In an attempt to soften the financial blow, Insomniac is offering layaway pricing. EDM enthusiasts can start to purchase their tickets on February 8th, even though they aren’t exactly sure what they’re paying for. Those in attendance will certainly be in for a chaotic and overwhelming couple of days, but without a set lineup, just who will be providing the music for this electronic Woodstock is still not clear. I suppose people will just start squirreling away their hard earned money on the hope that Insomniac will live up to the name it’s begun to create for itself and draw in some major talent. Until the official names of performers are released, we’ll simply have to wait and see.
