Travel: Vienna Is A Top Destination

It turns out tropical islands and beach destinations are not the most popular places to travel for vacation. It’s Vienna, Austria! The Viennese tourism industry was up 7.5% in hotel stays from 2011 with 12.3 million people. Vienna beat out China, Russia, Spain and the U.S.

From January to December 2012 every single month saw a record number of overnight stays in Vienna. The 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt no doubt contributed to the result,” explains Norbert Kettner, director of the Vienna Tourist Board.

Angelino, Derek Doherty who traveled to Vienna with a group of friends last year says, “The palaces and landmarks are world renowned. They certainly did not disappoint. Vienna was my favorite tourist spot for places to see during the day.”

There is so much to see, from Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral to the Imperial Palace, the Art Nouveau splendor of the Secession, the magnificent baroque palace Schönbrunn to the Museum of Fine Arts and the modern architecture at the MuseumsQuartier. Record-breaking: In Vienna, there are over 27 castles and more than 150 palaces.
