Government Shutdown, But For How Long?

government shutdown

Time is up, the government is now on shutdown. If Congress does not pass spending bills that fund the government by deadline, everything comes to a halt. Since the government’s fiscal year runs from October 1st to September 30th, tonight was the decision line. House Republicans are determined to suck the life out of Obamacare – The Affordable Care Act. With Democrats just as insistent on seeing the act through, the two-party conflict has caused mayhem. According to the GOP, this is worth disrupting government funding.

A local Los Angeles woman told Channel 4 News, “Congress needs to be spanked because they are acting like small children.”  Many public responses are filled with frustration and questions without answers. This is the first time in 17 years that the government as come to a halt. Up to one million workers will go on unpaid leave. National parks are closed and medical research projects stalled.

The federal government was shut down twice in 1995-96, when Bill Clinton was president and New Gingrich was the speaker of the House.
