Movie Review: The Teenage Vampire turns a housewarming party into a nightmare

Every teenager dreams of the moment when they turn eighteen and can finally fly the coop. It’s a rite of passage we’ve all looked forward to, often without realizing the realities and responsibilities that come with it. We’re too focused on leaving our parents’ house, having a place of our own, and no longer having to follow their rules. For Sandra in The Teenage Vampire, that’s exactly what she wants: to leave her mother’s home and find her independence.

While searching for a place of her own, she comes across a back house in the Hollywood Hills for just $300 a month. To someone new to apartment hunting, that sounds like a steal! Ignoring the advice of her mother, sister, and friends, she goes to check out the place and is instantly sold.

Excited about her new home, Sandra rushes back to tell her mother that she’s found a place and will be moving out that weekend. Convinced it’s a scam, her mother begs her to stay home, but Sandra is determined to do things her way. With her newfound freedom, what better way to celebrate than to throw a party? Sandra tells her friends about the new place and decides to break it in with a gathering of her own.

Unfortunately, Sandra’s cheap new home comes with a much darker catch. Her landlord and his wife aren’t exactly the friendly neighbors she might have hoped for, and her housewarming party quickly turns into a nightmare.

While The Teenage Vampire has its cheesy moments, I still found it entertaining. The storyline kept me interested, and seeing the film take place in Los Angeles made the experience even more enjoyable for me. There’s something fun about watching a story unfold in a familiar setting, especially when the city itself becomes part of the viewing experience.

Overall, The Teenage Vampire is worth checking out if you enjoy vampire films and don’t mind a little campiness along the way.
