There is free Wifi in Downtown Los Angeles

Karen Bass highlighted the City’s Get Connected initiative, which provides free public Wi-Fi access along the Crenshaw Corridor in South Los Angeles. Developed in partnership with Destination Crenshaw, City Council District 8, and City Council District 10, the initiative is intended to help address the digital divide by expanding access to reliable internet service for education, employment, healthcare, and communication.

Free Wi-Fi is available along a 1.5-mile stretch between Leimert Park and the Hyde Park Metro Station, covering areas within both council districts. The network provides access in public spaces, parks, and along major streets. Residents can connect by selecting “DestinationCrenshawWiFi,” with no password required.

“Access to Wi-Fi means access to opportunity,” Bass said in a statement. “We are taking every step possible to create a Los Angeles that is more connected and more accessible for all.”

City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson said the initiative is aimed at expanding access to education, employment, and civic participation through improved digital connectivity.

Councilmember Heather Hutt said reliable internet access should be accessible to all residents and described the free public internet program as part of broader equity efforts across the city.

City Librarian John F. Szabo noted that the Los Angeles Public Library has long focused on digital equity and inclusion through advocacy and public services, adding that the initiative expands those efforts.

The Get Connected initiative also serves as a centralized resource hub, helping residents locate free internet access points, digital skills training programs, and low-cost device opportunities throughout Los Angeles.
