Ozzy Osbourne Dies at 76: The Prince of Darkness Remembered

Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and one of the most influential figures in heavy metal history, has died at the age of 76.

His family released a statement confirming the news:
“Our beloved Ozzy passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He was a father, husband, and icon to millions. We thank everyone for their love and ask for privacy as we grieve this immense loss.”

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis”

Born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, Ozzy rose to fame in the 1970s as the lead vocalist of Black Sabbath. With dark, brooding lyrics and heavy guitar riffs, the band helped define a new genre of music and earned a devoted global following. Their early albums—Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality—remain cornerstones of rock history.

After parting ways with the band in 1979, Ozzy launched a wildly successful solo career, releasing hits like “Crazy Train,” “Mr. Crowley,” and “No More Tears.” His stage presence, often theatrical and unpredictable, cemented his status as a rock icon.

In the 2000s, he found a new generation of fans through The Osbournes, a hit MTV reality show that offered an unfiltered look into his home life with wife Sharon and children Jack and Kelly.

Though his health had declined in recent years—battling Parkinson’s disease, a spinal injury, and multiple surgeries—Ozzy remained deeply connected to music, even releasing new albums and making rare public appearances.

Known as the “Prince of Darkness” for his macabre image and wild antics, Ozzy Osbourne’s impact on music, culture, and entertainment is immeasurable. He is survived by his wife Sharon, their children, and grandchildren.
