Coronavirus: What If You Can’t Pay Your Rent?

Los Angeles County announced that they will issue an eviction moratorium.

What is an eviction moratorium? Apartment buildings will temporary prohibit evictions of tenants who cannot pay their rent.

The eviction moratorium will apply to tenants who are able to show "an inability to pay rent due to circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic."

The order covers income loss related to workplace closures, child care expenses due to school closures, and health care costs tied to having COVID-19 or caring for family or household member who has the disease.

Tenants will still have to pay rent, but they'll have up to six months after the city's local emergency period expires on March 31 in which to do it.
