Rock The Weekend 3/8/13-3/10/13

FRIDAY 3/8

The Swedish House Mafia

Where: Los Angeles State Historic Park

For two nights the Los Angeles State Historic Park is being transformed into a den of EDM as the world famous group, Swedish House Mafia, takes over to host their Masquerade Motel. Aside from the giant outdoor main stage, they’ll have an open garden area, and a ballroom for those sporting festive masks. How big of a deal is this event? L.A. is keeping the metro open late just for the concert. Calling this their “last L.A.” show, hordes of EDM fans are certain to flock her Friday and Saturday nights.

2AM Club

Where: The Roxy Theatre

This Friday night the 2AM Club is headed to the Roxy where they’ll perform the popular alternative tracks like “Worry About You” and “Faster Babe.” Though they haven’t broken in to Billboard’s Hot 100 (yet), they have gained a steady following of fans of their mix of hip-hop, electro, and rock influences. With tickets going for only $17 this Los Angeles-based band is absolutely worth checking out.

SATURDAY 3/9

Alabama Shakes

Where: Ogden Theatre (Denver, CO)/ Everywhere

The Alabama Shakes have quickly become a favorite American-rock band. With their roots rock appeal and their mix of rough and soft vocals, they’ve had no problem selling out shows. This Saturday they are yet again playing to a packed house all the way in Denver, Colorado. But fear not, this performance is going to be broadcast live by AXS TV. Now Angelenos and everyone else can get a chance to see this bluesy band do their thing (and you don’t have to worry about trying to see over that tall couple that inevitably ends up standing in front of you).

SUNDAY 3/10

Green Day

Where: Fox Theatre (Pomona, CA)

It’s no secret that Green Day frontman, Billie Joe has had his fair share of troubles. Following his angry breakdown at the iHeart Radio Musical Festival last year, the punk rock group had to postpone promotional stops and even performances. But, after a stint in rehab, they’ve officially regrouped and hit the road again. Luckily for Angelenos, one of their first stops is close to home at the Fox Theatre in Pomona. No matter what you think of Billie Joe, Green Day is a rock institution and their show is definitely going to reflect that.
