Rock The Weekend 2/15/13-2/17/13

FRIDAY 2/15

Boyz II Men

Where: Morongo Casino Resort & Spa

The 90’s have been resuscitated and are now alive and breathing in the 2010’s. The Backstreet Boys getting back together, and in an epic combination of boy band power, 98 Degrees, New Kids On The Block and Boyz II Men are all going on tour… together. This Friday the Boyz that brought us harmony hits like “I’ll Make Love to You” and “One Sweet Day” are playing the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa. True, they won’t have the other groups with them until this summer, but this is a perfect soulful prelude to the groups’ The Package Tour.

Soundgarden

Where: The Wiltern

For three back-to-back days starting this Friday, the grunge pioneers, Soundgarden are holding a residency at The Wiltern Theatre. Paving the way for big names in the genre such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, this band truly carved out a new space in the musical landscape. Though the finally received recognition by way of Grammy awards for their singles “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman,” the group broke up in 1997. Luckily for fans, they reunited in 2010, and came out with a new album. Now Angelenos have three opportunities to catch them live.

SATURDAY 2/16

Pink

Where: The Staples Center

Pink mixes the best of funky pop melody, with rocker style and a punk attitude. This Saturday night the tough chick is headed to the Staples Center. Coming onto the scene over a decade ago everyone’s favorite grunge girl has created six successful studio albums, selling over 40 million copies. Having an impressive 18 top 20 hits to choose from, this show is sure to be one you won’t want to miss. Bonus: The Hives are opening up for her, and they’re a great group in their own right.

The Temptations

Where: Cerritos Center

This seems to be the year of the revival of Motown. With the history of the musical institution being turned into a Broadway play, there’s no denying the enormous influence Motown had on the world of music. One of the biggest names in Motown during the 60’s and 70’s was the Temptations. Truly shaping the genre of soul, this group is responsible for timeless classics such as “My Girl”, “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)”, and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.” They’ll be performing at the Cerritos Center this Saturday, and it’s well worth the drive to see these icons in action.
